• Winchester Model 1890 manufactured in 1897 General Rifles and Shotguns. I saw it was Winchester Model 1890 with a FIVE digit serial number. For these and other reasons, value on these guns can vary tremendously.
• Mar 30, 2014  I have a Winchester Model 1890 Pump. Can you please estimate the value of this rifle? I looked up the serial number 228697 in the Winchester pocket guide. From this info it was manufactured in 1905. It has the octagonal barrel and has 22 Long stamped where the barrel meets the receiver.
• Winchester Model 1890 second Model Blue.22 Long. The serial number of this example is 173304 placing date of manufacture in 1903. Very rare and hard to find in this condition.
• On receiver it has Winchester Repating Arms Co, New Haven, Conn. Serial number is 656xxx Found a similar rifle on Auction Arms: Winchester wra Model 1890 22 short NICE OLD RIFLE! - Auction: 8016981 (Ends, 07:24:51 PST) My only purpose of posting about this is to share a good looking rifle with the rest of you Winchester gun collectors.

I purchased a very high serial numbered 22 WRF today. Serial number is 826632. I have two questions.

1)What year?

2) Why is the face of the frame just below the mag tube stamped 'WRF'?

Your rifle was manufactured during 1930. Because the WRF cartridge is significantly larger than other .22's the receiver had to have slightly different internal machining.

Thanks Michael. According to the only records that I can find, the serial numbers stopped around 752,000 in 1941 so I don't really know about the 1930 date. Where does that come from? Not saying you're wrong but just hoped someone had latter serial number data than I had. Also why would they stamp the front of the frame itself? I've never seen the frame itself with a caliber stamp on it.

As Bob pointed out the DOM information can be found on the WACA home page. Look at the middle of the page where it shows a Model 1886 rifle and the question 'When was your Winchester made?' The data itself is based on the end of year serialization records kept by Winchester.

The breech bolt and mainspring are different for the WRF chambered rifles compared to those used in the other .22 chamberings. Therefore, during assembly the WRF only parts had to be easily differentiated from the others, used and matched to the correct barrels.

The Winchester DOM numbers from Proofhouse don't include the polishing room data so they will be off by several years in some cases.
